a photo journey

~ Make sure to look through October for pictures from my trip to Italy. This whole working thing is really throwing off my regular-posting groove!

Ely Cathedral

On a lovely grey day, Micah and I decided to catch the train and head North to Ely. Our thought - Why not? As we travel across the Fens, a mound appears... a mound with a huge church build on top. This beacon called us off the train and up the slope to the grounds of Ely Cathedral.

This is probably one of the best Medieval cathedral in England. It was also the church Micah and I went for the Easter vigil in 2007. I have never experience a more amazing experience than this Saturday evening service. Lighting the fire outside the West door (outside the front side of the church, just in front of the facade above) we all were given candles light from the fire. Once that was done, we walked into the church with the red setting sun casting golden-red light on down the central isle. I have never seen such a beautiful symbol. The light being brought into the church just as the sun set.

We are the light of the world. His spirit is with us. Amen.

Christmas Rose

2006 was my first Christmas in a place where the ground wasn't frozen from October to April, so seeing a rose in full bloom while on my way to a Christmas service at church was absolutely stunning!

Happy Christmas everyone - may this year be full of roses and wonder!

Ely Cathedral

Nothing quite like a medieval church being light up during deepest darkest winter eh?

If there are country towns and university towns, Ely is very much a Cathedral town. If it weren't for the Cathedral, there really wouldn't be any reason for being there. It's a one hit wonder kind of a place, but what a beautiful wonder! I

f you get a chance, I think Ely really does deserve a day - a grey winter day at that. How else can you be properly medieval?

Double Helix

I think this was probably the first 'modern' sculpture I found breathtaking. Found on the front lawn at Clare College, I enjoyed 2 weeks of cycling past it on my way to my job at the Faculty of History. Man, what a lame job I had... I was the photocopy girl. No really, that's pretty much the only thing I had to do. It was an easy choice between that and working at Cambridge Wine Merchants! I had the bestest boss at CWM, and I miss her so!

Easter Flowers

So I've decided that from week to week I will take enough pictures to take care of my 5 picture-a-week quote. This means that the weekend pics will be a selection from my favourite pictures from 2009 and earlier. I might even try to do a 'on this day in history' theme... but I think that might be a little too much, even for me!

This picture is from Easter Saturday, April 2007. Micah and I were getting ready to go to the Cathedral in Ely for our confirmation. I decided to wear my Easter dress I had made for Easter 2006. This was the same dress that I wore at our first wedding in May 06. Let's just say I absolutely adore this dress.

In the mid-afternoon, I decided I wanted flowers for my hair. The above is the result of picking flowers from the bushes along the path leading to our maisonette. Not a bad take eh? Micah's sister helped with pinning in the flowers after I had braided my hair and pinned it up.

This picture was the start of an absolutely fantastic Easter celebration. I am so very blessed.
